September 24

American Romanian Festival

Saturday, September 24, 3:30–5:30 p.m.
Helmut Stern Auditorium

Romanian composer Cornel Taranu will hold a short talk at 3:30 pm about his film score for Red Apples and his collaboration with film director Alexandru Tatos. A screening of Red Apples will take place immediately following the talk.

In Alexandru Tatos’s debut film, a young urologist is assigned to a town hospital with no urology ward and keeps bumping up against his superiors because of both ethical and medical problems. For those who know the medical system in Romania, this is an acid pamphlet against destruction of young talent as well as a stand against the never-ending corruption that plagues even the noblest of professions.

Red Apples is part of the Third Annual Romanian Film Festival at UMMA. Please also join us at 7:30 pm for a screening of award-winning shorts.
