D. A. Powell's books include Cocktails and Chronic
, both of which were finalists for the Publishing Triangle and National Book Critics Circle Awards. Powell’s honors include the Gold Medal in Poetry from the California Commonwealth Club and the Kingsley Tufts Prize in Poetry, as well as fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
A former Briggs-Copeland Lecturer in Poetry at Harvard University, Powell has taught at Columbia University, University of Iowa’s Iowa Writers’ Workshop, and Davidson College. He lives in San Francisco.
UMMA is pleased to be the site for the Department of English Program in Creative Writing Zell Visiting Writers Series, which brings outstanding writers each semester.
