The Romanian Film Festival at UMMA will conclude with a screening of these award-winning short films.
The Boxing Lesson (Lectia de Box, 2007 Alexandru Mavrodineanu, English Subtitles, 12 min) Victor, a businessman from Bucharest, can no longer stand to see his son beaten up at school so he takes the boy to boxing classes. But when 12-year old Vlad refuses to take part, Victor enters the boxing ring himself in order to teach him a lesson.
bric brac (bric brac, 2008, Gabriel Achim, English subtitles, 15 min) A film director tries to persuade the main actor to continue playing his part in a film. The actor refuses to get involved because of the similarities between the movie action and a violent argument with his girlfriend.
Derby (Derby, 2010, Paul Negoescu, nominated for EFA award 2011, English subtitles, 15 min) Mircea has a 15-year old daughter whose boyfriend is invited to dine with the family. He arrives early and they go to her bedroom. They start dinner and Mircea finds out that the boyfriend supports a different football team.
Caviar (Icre Negre, 2010, Razvan Savescu, English subtitles, 18 min) On the morning before Christmas, Robert and his daughter Ioana start a trip from Tulcea to Bucharest, where Robert is supposed to deliver caviar to a wealthy lady, the head of a modeling agency.
Lord (Lord, 2009, Adrian Sitaru, Golden Bear Berlin 2010, English subtitles, 20 min) Although he hates dogs, Toni is engaged in finding lost animals and then blackmailing their masters in order to obtain large amounts of money. When Toni gets stuck with an old and ugly Pekinese, he is surprised by the feelings of affection the dog awakens.
The Cage (Colivia, 2010, Adrian Sitaru, Golden Bear Berlin 2010, English Subtitles, 17 min) A family’s everyday life becomes tormented when their son brings home an injured pigeon. The father dislikes the disease-carrying bird, but the son is firm in his determination to keep his newfound animal friend safe on the balcony of their flat.
