In Conversation: Exploring Islamic Art

In this informal gallery talk we will explore Fragments from the Past: Islamic Art from the Collection of the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology with works ranging from the eighth to the nineteenth century. UM Master's student in Middle East and North African Studies Crystal Labrosse will lead a discussion of see how these everyday objects and fragments come together to tell a story about the people in Egypt, Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Iran during those periods. The stories will show how aesthetic value was placed on everyday objects. This exhibition demonstrates many stories that run through the pasts of these peoples and cultures.
